What We Do

Curated programs.
Real peers.
No noise.

Most founder and investor communities optimize for size. We optimize for depth. Each program in the Matica Network is designed around a specific moment - a transition, a decision, a question that matters.

We keep groups small, curate for quality, and create the conditions for honest conversation. The kind that actually moves things forward.

Matica is run by Nathan Maton, Managing Director of Basal Capital. Everything here is built from direct experience with what founders and investors actually need.

The Clearing

San Francisco

A peer group for exited founders navigating the space between a significant exit and the next company - when you have capital, optionality, and know you want to build something new, but want to do it differently than last time.

6 sessions, 4-6 founders, peer-led conversation. No keynotes. No panels.

Why Matica

The best
connections happen
in small rooms.

Most networks compete on size and access. Matica competes on quality and trust. We'd rather have 20 people in the right room than 200 in the wrong one.

Every program is designed around a specific inflection point - after a big exit, before a first investment, when a company is finding its market. Moments when peer perspective actually matters.

We also use AI to do it better. We're building internal tooling to make high-quality events easier to run - smarter curation, better follow-through, less manual overhead. The goal is a network that gets more useful as it grows, not one that just gets bigger.

Founder, Data Scientist

San Francisco, CA

Nathan is a founder, data scientist, and community builder. He's spent his career at the intersection of technology and people - building products, running experiments, and figuring out what makes groups of people actually work well together.

He started Matica because the communities he wanted to be part of didn't exist. Most founder and investor networks are too large, too transactional, or too unfocused. He wanted something smaller, more intentional, and built with the same rigor you'd bring to a product.

That means using AI and data to curate better, follow through more consistently, and build tooling that makes high-quality events easier to run at scale. The Clearing was the first program. More are coming.
